  2. Haircuts – Why I Only Go Once A Year

    June 15, 2011 by davinca

So I had my “once a year” haircut the other day and once again I am reminded as to why I only go once a year and why I was slightly nervous that day.

As many of you know I have long hair that I love and am savouring for as long as I can before it gets old and scraggly and I have to have the chop.

I discuss with her that I wanted nothing off the length and just wanted shape, shorter layers and style.

All seemed cool, she was a beautiful sweet girl and I felt safe in her hands. Whilst cutting she asked:

“Do people often ask you if your hair is real?

    To which I answered:

    “Why yes, yes they do..

I always wonder if that means

    1. it looks like skanky extensions, or
    2. it’s just long and they wonder if it’s real.

She told me that my hair was gorgeous, I felt proud and she continued to cut.

Whilst cutting, a new client sat next to me and was having clip in extensions put in. I enquired about them as I had read the other day that Kim Kardashian has them in (ahh that’s why her hair looks so full).

I was quite interested as although my hair is nice and long it is also quite flat and I could do with some vavavoom.

    Me with Hair Extensions

At the end of my haircut she put the clip-ons in for me to see what they felt like (see the picture above – what do you think?). I loved them but for $220 after already have spent $150 for a cut and colour I couldn’t justify it. I would have to wait and save up for them… maybe…

This is where the dissolution begun though. After she took the extensions out I had a quick look in the mirror, the cut looked good and I left and headed home. It was at home that I realised my hair had been thinned out dramatically! It now looked like I did have skanky extensions in!! What had she done?? The top half looks great, the bottom half/my length looks ughh *insert sad face here*

Did she cut it this way so I would buy them? No she was so nice, that can’t be… Is this the look going these days?

So now I am sad. My fears of the hairdresser once again confirmed. Oh and now saving up for clip-ons as it would take years for my hair to get back to how it was.

If anyone knows of some good clip-ons at a good price and a good hairdresser plleeassse let me know..

I won’t be getting my hair cut again for a while that’s for sure.

  3. In the Search for Fuller, Longer Lashes

    May 13, 2011 by davinca

I recently had a full set of mink eye lashes (the most expensive/best quality) applied and although at first I loved them I now hate them! I am so glad I did not pay full price for them. I received a special via “Jump on it” through the I love Adelaide face book page. Which is a great site, I recommend all to join.

Let’s start with why I loved them – They were long and lushes, I didn’t feel the need to wear eyeliner or mascara for two weeks which for me was a huge change. I have very large eyes and wear eyeliner to make them appear not so bulgy lol

    Eyelashes

Mascara well that is just must have for all women in my opinion. The correct mascara makes your eyes pop and brightens up your eyes in an instant.
Having them applied was relaxing and did not hurt.

Now to why I hate them and would never have it done again-
The nightmare for me began a week and half to two weeks in when they began to fall out. That’s when the whole “ouch I have something in my eye” journey began..sure enough I did, long, stiff fallen eyelashes!! Then as I would lay my head on my pillow the lashes would stab me. Grrrr was beginning to be my reaction to my fancy long eyelash extensions…

Last night so frustrated whilst trying to sleep but having a irritated eye I began trying to pull them out lol not helpful for a already sore eye but the moment required it =0P I managed to pull a few out, which felt better. This morning I soaked my eyes with a oily make-up remover as oils is what I was recommended to stay away from to extend the life of my lashes. I had no luck with any removal =0( so here goes another possible week of lashes in my eye ball, pillow lash stabbing and manic eye lash pulling whist I am in bed tired and cranky….

Lol lucky my man is in Sydney for another 5 weeks and won’t have to put up with me whinging and complaining every night lol…

So a few weeks had passed and I successfully pulled all the lashes out. I then proceeded to look in the mirror and to my horror I saw thin, tiny lashes!! *insert silent scream here*

Had my lashes been destroyed from the extensions?

Had I made it worse by pulling at them obsessively?

Did they just look tiny because I had become used to looking at extra long lashes?

The answers to these questions I will never know but what I do know is that this made me sad :( for my lashes are my eye popping feature… my wow factor. With lashings of my all time favourite tried and tested mascara “maybelline full and soft”, my face is usually transformed and set to go (plus add eyeliner and blush of course).

Now though a tragic eye lash situation was before me. Lashings upon lashings of mascara was not improving my dilemma. They were nothing but small… tiny and thin..ugrhh

A few more weeks passed, my lashes improved and began to pop with mascara once again. Make up happiness had returned to my life and my memories of my eyelash extension drama began to fade.

Q- Will I recommend them to anyone?
    A- Personally NO.

However, I have heard of people who love them and get them regularly (as I was told by the lady who was applying them at the time).

A very expensive venture and a lot of bother but hey, whatever floats one’s boat… I am not one to judge.

Q- Will I ever have them put on again, even if it was offered to me free of charge?
    A- Hell no!

Mascara daily and false lashes on a big occasion is how I will continue to roll here on out!
